WebInfact if you go to the grub command-line mode, you will be able to try the devices available by tabbing. refer this article for a nice grub tutorial. Now you know for sure: hd0 = sda, hd1 = sdb, hd2 = sdc. Grub device names can be confusing, but you can use the linux device name and let grub figure it out. Don't use MBR, just use GPT. If you select the ZFS install option you can have it write both a CSM boot and an EFI partition. If they're both available you can boot FreeBSD using CSM and EFI boot. In other words you can switch later on.
